Tim Berners-Lee Looks Back: the "//" in Web Addresses Was Unnecessary

Asked what he would have done differently in creating the Web, Sir Tim Berners-Lee, says in this video that  the double slash, the "//"  after the colon in Web addresses, was unnecessary.
