Microsoft plays the security card in response to Google's Chrome Frame

Microsoft on Google's Chrome Frame:

“With Internet Explorer 8, we made significant advancements and updates to make the browser safer for our customers. Given the security issues with plug-ins in general and Google Chrome in particular, Google Chrome Frame running as a plug-in has doubled the attach area for malware and malicious scripts. This is not a risk we would recommend our friends and families take.

This is  cheeky.

Google vs. Apple

Some quotes from Why Google Is Stealing Apple's Ideas:

If Apple is trying to keep information away from its competitors, however, it missed a spot. That spot's name is Eric Schmidt.

While Schmidt is said to be discussing his ongoing role on the Apple board following the Chrome announcement, he resisted getting into the operating systems business for six years before giving in, according to the Financial Times. That means Google was studying the idea before Schmidt joined Apple's board of directors in 2006.

In that context, Apple's paranoia makes sense. It appears to have plans that stretch far beyond what's typical for a public company. And, because its products and services work so well, every scrap of information that can be gleaned about them is news. Well, except perhaps to Schmidt.
